Watching the Sunset after Praying & Walking
Along with other Daughters throughout the world, the Kyrie Eleison Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King is participating in Praying in the Light and Walking in the Light in preparation for our Triennial Meeting in 2015. Province VIII President Sara Lee Macdonald has provided all Daughters with a framework for crafting prayers while we walk. Sara also has a wonderful blog on walking and praying that is well worth the visit.
Following Sara’s guide, we’re sharing our own prayer walks with you. Even if you are not a Daughter, the practice of combining walking and prayer is a wonderful way to connect to your community and to admire the beauty of God’s creation.
The following prayer was crafted after the Daughters walked together on the grounds surrounding St. Mary’s:
O gracious God, you have given us this day to marvel at the beauty of your creation and the light to guide our paths. We come before you today with both petition and thanks.
For our religious community
For our religious communities, for those who lead us, for those who form our parish family, for the children we guide, and for those who enter as guests through our doors, we pray for their well-being and give thanks for their presence.
For the beauty of creation
For the beauty of creation and those who tend to it, for the arrival of new life, and the return of warmer weather, we give thanks to you, O Lord.
For good governance.
For the leaders of our community, and for the wisdom of their decisions, we pray to you, O Lord.
For Those in Military Service
For those who have given past service to their country, and for those who continue to do so by risking bodily harm, we pray for their protection. We pray for peace in the world, and for all those in nations far away where the guns are not silent. Let light perpetual shine upon those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and upon those who have lost their lives in war.
For our pets
For all creatures great and small, we give you thanks, dear Lord. Let us be conscious in our stewardship, and may those who are grieving the illness or loss of a beloved pet find comfort in your care.
For our communities
For this community that we call home, and for all the surrounding communities that our parishioners travel from to be with us, we thank you, God. Bless these communities and hold them in your protection, granting them steady work, good health, and loving friendship.
For those who protect and serve
For those who work in our community to make it safer and more productive, we ask for your protection and guidance, O Lord, and give you thanks for these.
O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
